War Rules?
Okay, Today, I have heard a lot about these "Rules of War" which I think seems to be absurd... That is like saying there are rules in an Aristocracy.... War seems like one of those times where it is pretty much gone beyond rules.... I mean what are they? Don't throw sand? Don't Bully? Be fair to the special Needs country?
I assume it is "Don't take the lives of innocent civilians" BUT! I don't remember Hitler not doing that.... or all these bombings? Or are the bombings in areas of possible soldiers? I have no Idea how something like this would work.
What are the punishments for breaking the rules?

Re: War Rules?
It's a complex issue, but i think in the end people who do clear wrong get whats coming sooner or later!
Re: War Rules?
that's what the geneva convention is for. bombing is almost always in "strategic locations" that is to say in likely weapons caches//enemy forces locations. That doesn't mean that civilians//houses never get hit, but it's "Illegal" for armys to target them... as for punishment, the world enforces them, countries that wouldn't normally fight will join in the fight for eg. if innocent people are dying

Re: War Rules?
I'm guessing these rules were introduced after WW2.... Cause England was being bombed to high heaven.... and then America only decided to get involved to what I consider, to kick the last body over and then say, "we win!"

they were developed partially after WW1 but that was pre aircraft bombing, they are enforced by the United Nations, which were recreated post WW2

It's true but there's all sorts of problems here, just like when we invaded iraq and like what hamas is doing now from what i read, they're hiding amoung civilians making it hard to avoid inflicting pain on civilians.
The other issue is how interested is the world in this kind of thing?
The worst thing to see is how we (Britain and America, even the "west" as a whole) are willing to go invade a country with an evil dictator with oil but not one without, aka mugabe in zimbabwe. If there's anyone in the world that needs to be shot it's him.
Lots of moral dilemmas eh
Re: War Rules?
Well yeah... I mean people say we are fighting the war on terror.... Firstly, I find it hard to fight terror Physically when it is just an emotion. Secondly, we are the reason all this Terror popped up because we wanted their oil without paying money even though by now it has probably worked out that the cost used in the war would've probably been more than just buying the oil.... Not to mention the dead people...
THIRDLY and this is REALLY important... Going back to my first point, If we just don't find Terrorists scary... are all the problems solved?

Re: War Rules?
If we're not scared of terrorists our problem is not solved, as they would simply be called mass murderers.
Re: War Rules?
Oh..... I though it would be the same as fighting a living skeleton then reminding him that he is just bones and no muscle so he shouldn't be able to move, thus making it instantly crumple....
Or like in Loony Toons where you could chase after someone over a cliff as long as you don't know about gravity.... but the second that book opens on gravity, you fall and land with the small puff of dust

Re: War Rules?
Ah yes Chris, but do you not know, that while the Looney Tunes got payed a lot for those stunts, they spent days, weeks or months in hospital with broken bones, torn ligaments and all sorts of injuries. Though they were very good at their job and could suspend themselves in mid-air for long periods of time, the injuries they sustained left permanent damage on their bodies.
You should remember the pain they went through so people could laugh at them on the T.V.
Poor guys
I think we should have a moment of silence for them.
