Pokemon EV Help
I was thinking about EV training my Eevee in SoulSilver. I want an Espeon (I can trade my Leafeon, Umbreon, and Vaporeon from Diamond), but I don't know how to train it... I can catch a Ditto easily enough, so I can make eggs.
With things like this and me, ignorance is definitely bliss. I happily played Pokemon without knowing about EV's for 7 games, and about half of an 8th game. Should I really start now? I know EV's don't really have to matter, but now that I've been introduced to them, they are always in the back of my mind when I play...

Re: Pokemon EV Help
Well, whilst you play it shockingly just happens suddenly... HOWEVER! Once you have it on your game, it can go away... but NEVER come back... BUT you may have noticed sometimes that you pokemon may have like a smiley face icon on their pic when looking at their status. That means they once had Pokerus. The effect it gives is still there, although Pokerus is no longer contagous with that one.
The best thing to do with Pokerus is to get a pokemon you wont use, have him in your party, let it get pokerus from your other pokemon then put that one in your PC, as it never goes there.
As for the EVs:
Special Sweeper
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Shadow Ball
- Calm Mind / Fake Tears
Item Attached: Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
With Azelf and Alakazam being notable alternatives, using Espeon as a special sweeper is usually considered an unattractive option. The primary attraction is the surprise factor it may carry with it, since opponents will usually not expect Espeon to use any offensive moves outside of Psychic. Hidden Power [Fighting] is particularly effective against Dark types, who are immune to Psychic. Shadow Ball is useful for catching Espeon's fellow Psychics, as well as Ghosts.
Espeon can choose between Fake Tears and Calm Mind to help bolster its offensive power. Fake Tears is much more effective one-on-one, and has the chance of forcing switches (for additional passive damage). It'll also remain if Espeon is forced to switch, although its effects are lost if the opponent switches or is fainted. Calm Mind will stick until Espeon is forced to switch or is fainted. The boosts are not as directly powerful, but the Special Defence boost increases Espeon's survivability and opens up the opportunity to use Calm Mind a few more times.
Choice Specs
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Shadow Ball
- Grass Knot
Item Attached: Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
Something of an obligatory Choice Specs set, although the aforementioned competition from Azelf and Alakazam makes using Espeon in such a manner seem unnecessary. As with the special sweeper, the main attraction is the element of surprise.
Psychic, Hidden Power [Fighting] and Shadow Ball have all had their merits covered. Grass Knot is the only new addition, and pretty much the only other special attack it has left to choose. Against opponents who resist Psychic (Tyranitar, Starmie and Slowbro coming to mind), it's better off using Hidden Power [Fighting] or Shadow Ball, but it has its uses for other situations (such as Hippowdon and Rhyperior).
Remember, the Macho Brace doubles the EVs you obtain from each match, as does Pokerus.

Re: Pokemon EV Help
I wouldn't use it tournaments or anything like that, I'd just use it to go through the game....
lol, the pokemon trainers in the game aren't surprized if you use legendaries against them, so why would they be upset about me using an Espeon?

Re: Pokemon EV Help
I know, but Espeons aren't used for much else... there was another build that was like just another Tournament one... But I thought you wouldn't enjoy that.
If you're just going through the game EVs make a blind bit of difference... the only difference they make is in the Battle Tower and stuff... which is when the above methods would be used. The Espeon builds given are pretty good for "Going through the game" what with that there Special Sweeper, being it hits hard and fast... but only with Special type moves, but then it seems you only focused on the word "Tournament" and didn't bother to read the rest... it seems...

Re: Pokemon EV Help
This sounds pretty interesting... Pokemon has always been a game that intelligent people play, and a game where intelligent people are the best.

Re: Pokemon EV Help
And numerous times you see some fat idiotic 10 year old completely DESTROY the 19 year old who has spent ages trying to think of teams, to go against someone else who has thought of teams and stuff... whilst some kid who just picks the moves and monster that look cool and make the other things die will win.
Like in chess, you will sometimes get people who play properly lose to an amateur because he's not used to playing against people who just move to waste turns... they'll be used to going against someone who has planned about 5 steps ahead... it's the "If I move here, he'll move here so I can move here which means he'll do this..." plan... whilst with someone else it'd be "If I move here, he'll move here.... No... he did something completely different... shit."

That's funny, it seems you didn't use the word tourament once in that post.
I just wanted a rough idea of the stats I needed to boost and the nature it needed. Thanks for your info!

Re: Pokemon EV Help
I didn't even write it.... I just copied and pasted from Serebii.net and read the general builds and went for the one closest to being able to attack hard and fast.... unless you want your Espeon to have it's general use which would be to use some buff skills, then use Baton pass and swap to your stronger pokemon, now with buffed up-ness, and then kick some booty... but I had the feeling you didn't want that as the only use of your Espeon.

Re: Pokemon EV Help
It's quite complicated to do, but it makes the magikarp like infinitely powerful and you get it to do struggle and a lvl 4 can kill a lvl 100!
There's videos of it.

Re: Pokemon EV Help
I imagine it involves finding some glitch that has the chance of crippling your game, not your save.... the actual game cartridge, tasty.... Either that or catching Missingo... hang on...
Re: Pokemon EV Help
Eww, not worth it...
Is there a way to get a Lvl 100 battle within the game? So I can check stats and then shut the game off?

Re: Pokemon EV Help
No it doesn't affect your game in any way.
It's got stuff to do with switching out different pokemon and stuff.

Re: Pokemon EV Help
Bethany, I don't really know what you mean.
In soulsilver/HeartGold, the highest level monsters are those owned by Red, which are like 8x and then in Platinum it'd be the elite four last girl who has 7x...
the only way to get a proper 100 v 100 or just you v lvl 100 is via the online.
