The complete I/L Wizard guide Empty The complete I/L Wizard guide

Post  SourDonut Wed Apr 02, 2008 8:36 pm

This guide contains information, methods and basically everything you need to know about Ice Lightning wizards.
If you have any questions, comments and etc. PM me or talk to me ingame - SourDonut, broa.

Why should I make an I/L wizard?
First of all, I/L wizards are the only 2nd job wizards that has the ability to mob (=Attack multiple monsters at once). They also have the ability to freeze monsters, which makes the training easier and saves a whole bunch of potions.
They also have a few cons, like less damage with Cold Beam compared to the fire poison wizard's Fire Arrow attack, but the ability to freeze with cold beam is making the attacks even.

Ok, Let's get started.
After you downloaded the game, opened an account and logged in the game, choose a world and a random channel. Dress your character, choose an hairstyle, a face and a name, and roll the dice.
There are four stats: STR, DEX, INT and LUK. You should roll your dice until you have those stats:

STR 4/5
DEX 4/5
INT X
LUK X

The STR and DEX are uselss for mages, and therefore it should have 4 or 5 points only. 4 is suggested, it'll affect your damage and stats in higher levels.
The INT is what affects your damage. the higher your int is, the higher your damage will be.
The LUK is what affects your experience lost while dying. It's also required to wear mages' equips, which is the main reason why mages put points into LUK.

From now on, whenever you level up, make sure your LUK is +3 from your level. All the other points should go into INT. Make sure by level 8 you'll have over 20 INT to make the magician job advancement.
The training on maple island might be hard and slower than other jobs, due to your low str, but remember to never add points to STR or DEX, it'll just ruin your damage in the higher levels, and mess up your skills.

Becoming a magician
By level 8, make sure you got 150 mesos and take the ship from Southperry to Victoria island. take the cab or walk to Ellinia, and in the top part of the city, there'll be a library, where you'll need to talk to Grendel the really old. Congratulations, you just became a magician!
When getting the job, you'll also get one skill point, Put it into energy bolt (you can view your skill book by pressing K on the keyboard).
From now on, whenever you level up you'll get 3 skill points. here is how you should use it:

Level 9: 3 MP Recovery
Level 10: 2 MP Recovery, 1 Max MP Increase
Level 11: 3 Max MP Increase
Level 12: 3 Max MP Increase
Level 13: 3 Max MP Increase
Level 14: 3 Magic Claw
Level 15: 3 Magic Claw
Level 16: 3 Magic Claw
Level 17: 3 MP Recovery
Level 18: 3 MP Recovery
Level 19: 3 MP Recovery
Level 20: 2 MP Recovery, 1 Magic Claw
Level 21: 3 Magic Claw
Level 22: 3 Magic Claw
Level 23: 3 Magic Claw
Level 24: 3 Magic Guard
Level 25: 3 Magic Guard
Level 26: 3 Magic Guard
Level 27: 3 Magic Guard
Level 28: 3 Magic Guard
Level 29: 3 Magic Guard
Level 30: 3 Magic Guard

Training spots - Level 8-30
Level 8 - 11, Blue snails, Red snails and Slimes in the first map from the right of Lith Harbour (Right around Lith Harbour).
Level 11 - 14, Slimes at the Slime Tree, ellinia.
Level 14 - 21, Henesys Party Quest.
Level 21 - 25, Pigs and Ribbon pigs in the Pig Beach.
Level 25 - 30, Kerning Party Quest.

I'm level 30! What's next?
Head over to Ellinia and talk to grendel the really old. He will give you a letter that you need to deliver to the magician job instructor, which is located in the top of "forest north to ellinia" map.
He'll let you in a special map, and your mission will be to kill the monsters inside and collect 30 of the marbels they drop. The monsters do not give exp, so don't worry about leveling in the middle. after getting 30 talk to the instructor and he'll give you an item called Proof of Hero, and you'll need to give it to Grendel. Talk to Grendel and you'll have 3 choices: To become a fire poison wizard, a cleric or an ice iightning wizard.
This guide is made for I/L wizards only, so if you decided to choose one of the other jobs, go look for another guide.

2nd job skills
In level 30, after advancing, you'll earn one skill point. Put it into teleport.
Here one build out of many for the next levels, until level 70. There's a section later on the guide about other builds and methods to use skill points. This is the guild I chose, and i think it's the most useful one:

Level 30: 1 Teleport
31: 3 Cold Beam
32: 3 Cold Beam
33: 3 Cold Beam
34: 3 Cold Beam
35: 3 Cold Beam
36: 3 Cold Beam
37: 3 Cold Beam
38: 3 Cold Beam
39: 3 Cold Beam
40: 3 Cold Beam
41: 3 Thunderbolt
43: 3 Thunderbolt
44: 3 Thunderbolt
45: 3 Thunderbolt
46: 3 Thunderbolt
47: 3 Thunderbolt
48: 3 Thunderbolt
49: 3 Thunderbolt
50: 3 Thunderbolt
51: 3 MP Eater
52: 3 Meditate
53: 3 Meditate
54: 3 Meditate
55: 3 Meditate
56: 3 Meditate
57: 3 Meditate
58: 2 Meditate, 1 MP Eater
59: 3 MP Eater
60: 3 MP Eater
61: 3 MP Eater
62: 3 MP Eater
63: 3 MP Eater
64: 1 MP Eater, 2 Teleport
65: 3 Teleport
66: 3 Teleport
67: 3 Teleport
68: 3 Teleport
69: 3 Teleport
70: 2 Teleport, 1 Magic Armour/Slow, whatever you think looks cooler to show off

Another method is to max Thunderbolt before ice, if you are funded and don't mind wasting more money on potions.
You can also max MP eater before Meditate, or max Teleport before maxing MP eater.
Don't max slow, it's useful for F/P wizards but I/Ls already has cold beam, and in 3rd job Ice Strike.

Training spots - level 31-70
In level 31 you can choose either to do Monster Carnival PQ, or train. Most people won't get you for Monster Carnival, but you can always try (:
If no one still invites you, go to Ant Tunnel or Excavation site II in perion and train there until level 35.
Then you can choose either to monster carnival, which is kind of over populated (Atleast now, when it just came out), or Ludi PQ, less exp but no one does it now so you can easily enter. I doubt you can even find a party.
or you always have the option to just train at ant tunnel or in excavation site II, until about level38.
In level38, if you chose to do neither of the PQs, you can go train in Sakura Cellions, kind of over populated because of the good drops and huge amount of mesos they drop, or in orbis cellions, same exp (65) but less populated.
As a lazy person who never trained for a whole level, I suggest you go maze pq in level51. Orbis PQ is kind of useless unless you choose to glitch, which is illegel. Maze also helps you make money by npcing the potions you get there. you can find a guide to that pq in Guides - General.
Another training spot instead of maze pq is red drakes in perion, or mobbing gryphons in new leaf city.

I'm level 70! Now what...?
Head over to Chief's Residence in El Nath and talk to Roberia, who will tell you to talk to Grendel the really old. Go to Ellinia and talk to him, he will tell you you need to defeat his other self from another dimension. Go to he door of dimension which is located in the Forest of Evil II. Once you have defeated Grendel's copy, you'll get a black charm, trade this with Grendel for a Necklace of Strength. Get a refined black crystal and go back to El Nath. Talk to Roberia, and she will send you to the Holy Stone. Go to Holy ground at the snowfield, located at the top of Sharp Cliff II. give the stone your Crystal and answer 5 questions about the game. if you're not sure, there's a list of questions in Hidden-Street.net. After answering all the questions, you will get the Necklace of Wisdom. go back to El Nath and give it to Roberia. CONGRATULATIONS! You're now an I/L mage (:

3rd Job Skills
I still didn't even get to 3rd job, so I gave you a few options that i found for adding skill points.

The complete I/L Wizard guide Empty Re: The complete I/L Wizard guide

Post  Stimpeh Sun Aug 10, 2008 12:24 am

Good job Guy!

But here is another build, the one im going with :

Level 70: Ice Strike Lv01
Level 71: Ice Strike Lv04
Level 72: Ice Strike Lv07
Level 73: Ice Strike Lv10
Level 74: Ice Strike Lv13
Level 75: Ice Strike Lv16
Level 76: Ice Strike Lv19
Level 77: Ice Strike Lv22
Level 78: Ice Strike Lv25
Level 79: Ice Strike Lv28
Level 80: Ice Strike Lv30(maxed), Element Amplification Lv01
Level 81: Element Amplification Lv04
Level 82: Element Amplification Lv07
Level 83: Element Amplification Lv10
Level 84: Element Amplification Lv13
Level 85: Element Amplification Lv16
Level 86: Element Amplification Lv19
Level 87: Element Amplification Lv22
Level 88: Element Amplification Lv25
Level 89: Element Amplification Lv28
Level 90: Element Amplification Lv30(Max), Magic Booster Lv1
Level 91: Magic Booster Lv04
Level 92: Magic Booster Lv07
Level 93: Magic Booster Lv10
Level 94: Magic Booster Lv11, Seal Lv01, Magic Composition Lv01

I went with Seal here to help me with training,
It's a good skill for Gobies or even kents.
It's not a must tho, you can just continue and max Magic Composition.

Level 95: Magic Composition Lv04
Level 96: Magic Composition Lv07
Level 97: Magic Composition Lv10
Level 98: Magic Composition Lv13
Level 99: Magic Composition Lv16
Level 100: Magic Composition Lv19
Level 101: Magic Composition Lv22
Level 102: Magic Composition Lv25
Level 103: Magic Composition Lv28
Level 104: Magic Composition Lv30(Max), Magic Booster Lv12
Level 105: Magic Booster Lv15
Level 106: Magic Booster Lv18
Level 107: Magic Booster Lv20(Max) Seal Lv02
Level 108: Seal Lv05
Level 109: Seal Lv08
Level 110: Seal Lv11
Level 111: Seal Lv14
Level 112: Seal Lv17
Level 113: Seal Lv20(Max)
Level 114: Partial Resistance Lv03
Level 115: Partial Resistance Lv06
Level 116: Partial Resistance Lv09
Level 117: Partial Resistance Lv12
Level 118: Partial Resistance Lv15
Level 119: Partial Resistance Lv18
Level 120: Partial Resistance Lv20, 1 point to anything you want.

you will end up with :

~Ice strike (Maxed)
~Element Amplification (Maxed)
~Magic booster (Maxed)
~Seal (Maxed)
~Magic Composition (Maxed)
~Partial Resistance (Maxed)
~And one extra point.

You end up maxing 2 attacks 2 passive buffs and 2 active buffs.

Reason why I didnt max Thunder Spear is :

1) I rather train with Ice Strike, mobbing skill hits 6 monsters at one time
and it will make you gain % faster. I use Magic Composition to 1v1 monsters
because then I can freeze em, use of less pots.
2) Thunder spear is kinda slow even when maxing booster.
3) Most training spots recommended for mages are for the use of Ice strike.
Training with TS will be too slow.
4) Chain Lighting in 4th job replace Thunder spear.

My fav training spots :

Well its hard to get started as a young mage.
Your Ice strike will be too weak, and the old attacks wont cut it.
But dont give up, its just for around lvl 70 to 74, some might call it
hell levels.

Well in lvl 70 to 71 I kept on doing PQs.
Orbis pq or Maze pq for some extra money that you will need.

Lvl 71
Time for some grinding, some people prefer going on Pirate PQ
in Herb town, its not that much of exp but it is fast and fun plus
you get a cool hat after you complete certin amount of PQs (50).

if you dont wanna PQ :
you can grind at : Hoodoo/Voodoo at NLC (Recommended).
Celions at Orbis (Recommended aswell).
Birks, kinda hard since they take alot of hp.
Pirates at Herb town.

After you reach to lvl 74-75 your Ice strike will start doing some dmg.
You will start pulling 1ks on this stage I trained at Pirates map 2.

Ok now from this point my next recommended spot is my fav spot.
Red Kentaurus located at leafre. I went there on lvl 78.
But if you have good equip you can even go on 75.
It's a hard spot to train at first, you'll need to get the hang of it.
The kents can do over 1k dmg to you but with smart movement and IS
you will hardly get hit. Since they are Ice weak you will pull nice dmg
to them. They give 1600 exp each, and that is around
0.03% - 0.05% when you first start. No ksing most of the time.

When you start maxing Element Amplification at lvl 80 things will go
alot faster, you'll pull high dmg on Kents and you will get to 90 in no time.
I trained at Kents from lvl 78 to 93.

you can try other spots of course : Wolf spiders at NLC or Gobies at Aqua
I find them slower then kents and even harder. but they have better drops.

Lv93
Well this is the time to leave good old Kents and move to your new spot.
The dreamy ghosts at Zipangu aka Himes.
This is basicly a flat map loaded with ghosts, each give away 3200exp.
They hit around 1.2k and up. its hard at first, you may die alot but you can
pull away 20% to 30% an hour depanding on your skills and equip.
This map is perfect for IS as you can push them away and not get hit.
I recommend you watch the youtube guide : Himes for I/L Mages.
Learn how to juggle them around the map when you hit more then 6 monters
at a time, when to use your buffs and more.
I recommend going to himes after you level at 0.00% to test out the map and learn how to train, that way you wont lose too much exp. Wink
Since im only lvl 9x now I dont know how long im gonna continue with himes.
But my guess is at least 100+

I tried other places like red wyvrens but they are not as good as himes.
Its not too hard finding chs for himes, tho alot of high lvls train there,
mostly priests and dks. but I didnt get ksed yet.
watch out from the black crow boss as he can kill you with one hit.
I recommend to CC if you see one.

Well that is basicly it, hope this guide will come in handy.
If you have any remarks, questions, etc..
post your comments here or ingame @ Broa /Whisp Stimpeh.

Have fun, I/L FTW Twisted Evil
