I bought a PS3, and have a pretty nice collection of games so far. I am going to review evrey game i bought so far, starting off with Resistance: Fall of Men.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Storyline

R:FoM is a First Person Shooter that plays in 1951 in Great Brittain. The second world war has never taken place, but instead we are attacked by something far worse, the Chimera. The Chimera are humans, infected by an unknown virus spreaded from Russia into whole Asia and Europe, and are now attacking the last bit of Europe, Great Brittain.

You take the role of Sergant Nathan Hale, a US army soldier, who will together with the last resistance of Great Brittain fight for the freedom of earth.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Environment

The environment in a FPS is very important, in R:FoM they worked this out pretty well, you walk trough destructed city's, dark bunkers, large fields who all have a dark scent and at the same time you get crowded by numerous Chimera, if you put out the lights and play it alone at night it even sometimes could be seen as a horror game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Enemy's

Especially the monsters, in this case the Chimera, make the game pretty intense. They differ from ''Hybrid's'' (The most common and human looking Chimera) to huge almost troll-like looking monsters with big gun's. In this game they really worked out well how the enemy’s look, altho sometimes the looks don't differ that much of each other, e.g. you won't see a lot of difference between the enemy's, for instance, some of the bigger monster look almost the same as the smaller ones, just bigger.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-The AI (Artificial Intelligence)

The AI of the Chimera is pretty good, what i noticed is that how stronger and bigger the enemy, how smarter he also is. The Hybrid's for instance are pretty dumb (they seem to get smarter how more you progress in the game, and in groups they are pretty deadly too) and the really big monsters really seem to be able to follow you making it harder for you to surprise them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Weapons

Probably the most important thing in a FPS are the weapon's, and they got a lot of them in R:FoM. They look very realistic and have very impressive uses, such as the spike grenade that once thrown rises in the air and shoots its spikes in different directions, penentrating the close enemy's.

The advantage and fun you can have of these weapons is that you keep the weapons you gather in the story mode through the whole story mode, giving you more fun in using different weapons whenever you want, and making it also easyer as some enemy's require a certain weapon in order to making it easy to kill it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Teamplay

You don't play alone in R:FoM, you have a whole team behind you that also really works together with you. In some FPS's you can finish all by yourself, but here it sometimes is even better to get damaged urself to save a teammate than saving yourself and let your team mate get killed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Multiplayer

Offline

The offline multiplayer consists a cooperative mode, where you can play the whole Campaign with one of your friend's, unfortunately, you have to start a new game to do this, so you can not continue on your Singleplayer Campaign with a friend. It also contains a Deathmatch where you can play against your friends, until this moment i have not found any way to add bots into the game, making it very boring if you are only with 2 people.

Online

The online mode is very big, you have a large number of maps and the option to buy different map packs, until this point two map packs have been released, a map pack contains two new maps.

You have the choice between ranked and unranked games, the ranked ones are like it sais, ranked, but you can not choose a server by yourself, you will be put in a server with people of the same skill. In the unranked games you can pick a server of your choice, with a map of your choice, and you will be able to choose some more options. However this is NOT a ranked game, so you will not gain any leaderbord points for the ranked games. In each of the two you have a number of different modes: Deathmatch (like the usual Deathmatch in other games, just free-for-all killing each other), Team Deathmatch (same as Deathmatch, but then in Team's) and Team objective. Team objective is also divided in several different mode's, i hav not done that yet, so i don't know exactly what is what.

You can also gain various ranks by killing enemys and completing objectives, as this gives experience points, you will go trough a lot of ranks. These ranks are military ranks, that can be archieved in real life too. A rank for instance, is Private First Class, each rank gives you a different emblem in front of your name. Very surprising is the fact that you can modify your character. Each rank gives new modification things like, a new outfit, a water bottle at your belt, a new head, a new hat etc. These items make it very fun and interesting as you don’t know what new item you will gain next.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Graphics and Audio

This is very simple, and short. Resistance: Fall of Men is not a next gen PS3 game, Insomniac has not used the full power of the PS3. The graphics are not horrible, but could be done way better. The PS3 simply has more power than is used to create the visual effects of this game. Altho it does not look very good, it is a decent game.

The audio in this game was surprisingly well done, and did really add to the atmosphere in the game. I guess this is where the next gen part of the game is.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Conclusion

A big game, with a lot of content, but it stays a regular FPS, it is a cool game but there are not very big differences between this FPS and other ones. Still this game has decent graphics and play's very well, has a big Solo Campaign, and an even bigger online multiplayer. Overall you won't play the Solo Campaign that much, you will be busy with the multiplayer most of the time.
